Golf Holidays in Fontainebleau

About an hour south of Paris, Fontainebleau is home to France’s No. 1 golf course, Napoleon’s favourite chateau and the country’s largest forest.

The area also boasts other courses such as the Jack Nicklaus-designed Cely, the pretty Augerville and beautiful Vaugouard, the latter of which has its own hotel. A little further away but still very accessible is Golf National – home to the 2018 Ryder Cup – and the hidden gem of Courson Monteloup with its 36 holes designed by the great Robert von Hagge.

The royal town of Fontainebleau is lively for most of the week and there’s a fine choice of eateries in the town and the timeless villages like Barbizon, Bourron Marlotte and Moret sur Loing.

The hotel choice is small but good quality with two nice ones in Fontainebleau, the golf hotel at Vaugouard and Hotel Les Pleaides in Barbizon which is one of the prettiest villages in France.

Allow four hours’ drive from Calais so it’s best to come to Fontainebleau for at least three nights or part of a perfect combination with the Loire, Burgundy and/or Champagne.   This is the place to experience a rural but sophisticated part of France, not too far from Calais and  easily accessible from the Paris airports.
