Golf Holidays in Thailand
Thailand, with its excellent direct flights to the UK, 250 golf courses, welcoming people as well as the wonderful variety resorts offers warm-weather holidays for every type of golfer: the exploring golfer taking in two or three parts of the fascinating country, a longer stay in Bangkok for culture vultures or a relaxing fortnight on the beaches of Phuket Island.
Most of my clients take in a few nights in Bangkok and then head south on either the hop-flight to Phuket Island or the 2 1/2 hour private road transfer to Hua Hin. At either resort, you can fully relax, enjoy the heat and play on some of most beautiful courses in Asia. I’ve cherry-picked the best courses in each destination, along with a fine choice of accommodation.
Bangkok is one of the most vibrant and fascinating cities in world. Luxury hotels, glittering temples, colourful markets and people, great shopping and heady nightlife make the city unique and unforgettable. For the leisure island of Phuket, I’m recommending three hotels near the main destination – a large beach front resort, a boutique all-villa hotel in a secluded location and a cosy golf-hotel on the two courses at Blue Canyon. For Hua Hin, which is a quieter and less developed (and less expensive) resort than Phuket, the new-look Hyatt Regency ticks the boxes.
Allow at least 10 nights to take in a couple of nights in Bangkok and then a week concentrating on your golf and downtime. November to April are the best months to travel as they are dry and warm, and November and April are still very keenly priced.. May to early November are wet but still warm at about 32 C so if you can play around the strong but fairly quick downpours and you like the humidity, try June to August to avoid the wettest months and to enjoy the low-season prices.
Caddies and buggies are obligatory on most courses but the Caddies are helpful and save you a few shots and the buggies afford sometimes welcoming shade. Allow about £20 per player plus tip for the Caddie and shared buggy. Eating at local restaurants is often fantastic and also incredible value.
Flight time to Bangkok: 11 1/2 hours and then the hop-flight to Phuket takes about 75 minutes. The drive from Bangkok to Hua Hin takes 2 1/2 hours. You can also fly to Phuket via Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
