Golf Holidays in Italy
Italy is well known for its food, scenery and passionate people. It’s also famous for some beautiful hotels and high-quality of service. And to add to these attractions is the golf…Some of the courses are superb with plenty of pockets of two or three very fine courses dotted around the country and its islands.
My favourite destination in Italy is the Lakes and Turin. From Turin in the west to Verona in the east is 200 miles of sensational views, gorgeous golf courses and more than their fair share of La Dolce Vita. The region is also easy to get to with five airports well-served by the UK. For a quality golf holiday away from the crowds, this is the place.
Tuscany is Italy’s best known region and there’s no doubting the beauty of the soft rolling hills and medieval cities such as Florence, Bologna, Siena and many more. Tuscany is the place of choice if you’re looking to combine culture with a few games of good golf with courses designed by the likes of Trent Jones, Arnold Palmer and Jim Fazio. It’s good value too. And then there’s the food to consider…Fabulous!
The islands of Sardinia and Sicily are both listed among the world’s most beautiful places. But did you know about the golf? Sicily has seven 18-hole layouts, five of which are well-worth playing. In fact, there are two five-star resorts each with 36 holes: Verdura Resort sits comfortably among the most stylish resorts in Europe and Donnafugata is a smaller and more discreet resort at fantastic value. Sicily is incredibly historic and I would recommend you leave a couple of days to explore the coast and the stunning towns on the north-east coast or allow me to make you a two-centre holiday so you can pack in a few days of golf followed by exploring…All on your hotel doorstep.
Sardinia has fewer golf courses so it’s more of a “holiday with golf” than a golf holiday but there’s nothing wrong with that! The beach resorts of Is Arenas in the south and Is Molas in the north-west are both coastal resorts with courses (designed by the legendary Trent Jones Snr and Robert von Hagge) to write home about. The accommodation is welcoming and comfortable and my prices are incredibly keen. For a truly relaxing, great-value break away from the crowds, Sardinia comes highly recommended by me.
