Golf Holidays in The Lakes & Turin

The Italian Lakes provide the best venue for golf holidays in Italy. Come to think of it, the Lakes make for a good holiday even without the golf as the scenery, the food and the quality of hotels all make for La Dolce Vita!

The Lakes come in three shapes and sizes: Lake Maggiore in the west heading towards Turin, Lake Como north of Milan and Lake Garda in the east not too far from Verona. Maggiore and Como would say they each have the best golf courses and you should never argue with an Italian as you’ll still be there three hours later and on the fourth bottle of wine. And Lake Garda would claim the best location for culture and exploring.

Of course, Italy is famous for its food and its gardens and we can combine your golf holiday with cooking lessons and/or entrance to private gardens to pack your golf holiday with Italian flavour.
The best base around Lake Maggiore is Stresa on the west bank – from there you can access two European Top 100 golf courses and three other lovely tracks. An under-the-radar hotel is Golf Hotel Castelconturbia which sits on the superb Robert von Hagge golf course and offers a sporty and relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. For a getaway-from-it-all holiday with lots of classy golf, Castelconturbia is a great choice.

Whilst we’re in the north of Italy Turin. in the stunning Piedmont region, is a short drive away and has no fewer than five top-quality golf courses designed by the biggest names in golf. The 36 holes at Golf Torino (home to the Molinari golfing clan), the 36 at Royal Park I Roveri and Biella La Betule would be hard to beat whatever you compare it with.

My favourite hotel is tucked away in the nature reserve and has four courses within a 10-minute drive. Or you may want something livelier in which case I have a couple of super city-centre hotels in Turin and I can even book tickets to watch Juventus play.

With direct flights to Turin Airport – just 15 minutes from most of the courses, the destination is perfect for a quality hotel away from the crowds.
Como is, predictably, the favourite place to stay when visiting Lake Como but there some super hotels (and less expensive too) at nearby Cernobbio and, of course, there’s the world-class Hotel Villa d’Este if you’re celebrating.

The best courses are Menaggio and Villa d’Este and there are four other courses worth your visit. Make time to wander the meandering streets and take a lunch lake cruise. Como makes for the most stylish golf holiday on the Italian Lakes.

Lake Garda is more about the scenery and apres-golf than the golf itself but there are three nice courses and some stylish hotels and the rather special options of visiting the medieval city of Verona which is just over 20 miles away and Venice which is a 75-minute train ride away.
It’s all rather Bellissima in and around the Italian Lakes.
