Cely Golf Club TARGET

Course overview

About 15 minutes north of Fontainebleau heading up toward Paris, Cely was built by the Golden Bear team for a “money no object” Japanese project in the 1980’s.  Now in French hands, Cely also boasts a a seminar-only hotel and a bustling clubhouse serving good food at very reasonable prices.

The course features a fair amount of water and typical Jack Nicklaus challenges of big bunkers and a few signature holes.  The course starts quite gently with a shortish par five and three par fours but then it gets tighter and trickier.  The fairways are in good order and the greens – although quite small – are very fair.

Short by modern standards at about 6500 yards off the back, Cely is always in good condition and I like the uncomplicated nature of the layout…What you see is what you get and it’s usually very pretty and fair.  You need a good short game and, as always with Nicklaus’ courses, you just need to follow the fairways to avoid the risk of falling foul of the hazards.
