Woburn and Henley-on-Thames are two of the most idyllic and photographed towns in England. And Luton Hoo is one of the great success stories of recent years. With beautiful sandstone buildings, rolling countryside and plenty of perfect pubs, I think they’re a great way to enjoy England – even if you’re English!
For golf, Woburn has three highly-rated golf courses just a five-minute drive from the hotel and I’ve chosen fine parkland courses around Henley-on-Thames. Luton Hoo has its own golf course, is close to several other fine courses and the accommodation and facilities at Luton Hoo is five-star all the way.
Of course, Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire is world-famous for the Henley Regatta (rowing) and it’s also got a fine reputation for its upmarket music festival in July. There are plenty of restaurants in the town and I know several gourmet pubs in the surrounding Chiltern Hills (as well as a very good vineyard and brewery open for tours and tastings!).
Woburn boasts more USP’s than many large towns: try Woburn Abbey and Gardens, the Safari & Deer Park, the Sculpture Park, three famous courses, as well the most charming small town.
Perfect for a short but refreshing break, my selection in the Home Counties offers easy access and a beautiful experience of what makes England such a marvellous country.
