Golf Holidays in Algarve

A golf holiday on the Algarve should never be under-estimated. It’s easy to get to and the quality of the golf is outstanding with old favourites like the Old Course at Vilamoura mixing with fine modern creations like Millenium. Vilamoura is the hotspot for sheer quality and quantity of golf with 16 courses worth playing and a lively apres-golf scene.

To the east of Vilamoura you’ll find Tavira which reminds us (in the nicest way) of how Vilamoura was until the 1980’s: quaint, spacious and very good value. Our favourite in the Eastern Algarve is the All Inclusive option at Robinsons Club and, if you’re looking for top-notch luxury, the villas at Monte Rei are part of a fine hotel set-up and overlook the superb Jack Nicklaus-designed Monte Rei with a further five courses within easy reach.

To the west of Vilamoura is the renowned Vale do Lobo and Quinta da Lago resorts with a selection of fine hotels and some of the finest courses you’ll find in Europe…It’s the most prestigious stretch of residential and golfing land in Portugal and my best-selling area in Portugal.

Lagos & Portimao

Heading towards Lagos and Portimao and you’ll find exceptional value and the lovely port towns where freshly-caught sardines on the quay are washed down with the excellent local white wines. Penina is a slightly-faded version of its heydey bu there is no denying the attractive prices and Palmares – often voted as the best course in Portugal – now boasts its own boutique hotel (Palmares Beach House) and the excellent Cascade Resort. With 15 golf courses in the area, the keenest of golfers will be kept busy and pleased.
