Hotel Overview

One of the fore-runners of golf on the Algarve, Penina Golf Resort as a “must” for any golfer in the 1970’s and 80’s when the late great Sir Henry Cotton was in-situ. In fact, I was privileged to be taught by the great man during my teenage years.

The hotel is a little faded these days but I would still rate it as a good four-star and the golf course is arguably the best it’s been and the staff are excellent. As well as the Championship Course, there’s the fun 9-hole, Par 35 Resort Course as well as the 9-hole, Par 30 Academy Course. If your looking for a classic, comfortable no-nonsense golf hotel with good facilities and welcoming service, Penina is always an excellent choice. It’s also fantastic value and the buffet dinners are legendary.

As well as the on-site courses, the area has got a great variety of clubs including Palmares which is often rated No.1 in Portugal. For après-golf, you’ve got the charming port towns of Portimao and Lagos a short distance away and the hotel gardens and massive pool are perfect for lazy afternoons. Penina can either be a brilliant base from which to sample the best courses and sights or ideal for traditional golf-dinner-hotel package where all you have to worry about is how to improve on yesterday’s score. I’ve come up with perfect packages for both options.
