For West Scotland, Turnberry leads the way as it would any other destination around the world. For a smaller resort, Gleddoch ticks the boxes and, for a comfortable base from which you can pick and choose some of the brilliant golf courses, the Marine Hotel in Troon is ideal.
For golf, West Scotland perhaps offers a more subtle type of links from the east coast with perhaps less drama but a greater need for the knowledge of how to play links golf. My choice of courses includes the famous names as well as some of the “hidden gems” to provide a lovely surprise and keep the holiday cost down.
Both Glasgow Airports are a very short drive away and the region is perfect to feature as a two- or three-centre touring holiday for which I can also include the stand-alone resorts at Machrihanish Dunes in Campeltown and The Machrie Hotel and Golf Links of the island of Islay.
