Portland is the younger of the two having opened in 1895! Shorter and a touch more sheltered than the Old Course (Royal Troon), there’s more gorse and broom so treat the course with respect. Particularly as the layout changes direction on nearly every hole so you’ve got to constantly judge the sea breezes.
