For March, I am suggesting either Golf Hotel Le Manoir on the two Le Touquet golf courses or the Hermitage in Montreuil-sur-Mer if you prefer being able to walk to a great choice of restaurants. For August, Golf Hotel Le Manoir again ticks a lot of boxes but Hotel du Parc in Hardelot will provide more of a summer “beach vibe” for the warmer months.
For golf, Northern France is one of the premier golfing regions in Europe and the variety and quality on offer is very tempting. Hardelot Les Pins and Hardelot Les Dunes are both cut through pine forests and lay on a sandy base, making for very scenic and verdant golf courses which are in good condition pretty much all year round. Les Pins is the more difficult but very fair and very easy walking. Les Dunes is shorter, tighter and a little hilly in parts and has several gorgeous holes. Le Touquet La Mer is the championship course of the region and has made further improvements over last winter – it’s a long, wild links course. Le Touquet La Foret is a mix of parkland and relatively tight parkland and is a pretty and pleasant test of golf. Both Hardelot Les Pins and Le Touquet La Mer are rated among the best courses in Europe. As well as these two prestigious clubs, I very much enjoy the links of Wimereux, and Belle Dune (pictured above) is a lesser-known European Top 100 course cut through the dunes about 40 minutes south of Le Touquet. The value for money is still very good and favours comparably with similar-quality destinations in the UK and Europe.
Golf Hotel Le Manoir is looking quite contemporary these days with a refurbished bar and reception area to go alongside the comfortable bedrooms and excellent restaurant. The hotel has renovated most of its 42 bedrooms over the last three years. Officially a four-star hotel, Le Manoir offers an outdoor heated pool from May to September and putting green, and the ambience is among the most welcoming in Northern France. The hotel is a three-minute drive from the main resort of Le Touquet and the two fine golf courses and impressive clubhouse are just a wedge away. Practice balls are free at Le Touquet and Hardelot if a resident of Hotel Le Manoir.
The resort of Le Touquet has also been upgraded and is enjoying new renown with the “Parisian chic” thanks to President and Brigitte Macron having a weekend home there.
