I am pleased to provide my recommendation for a spring sunshine golf holiday.
Sotogrande is on the western side of the Costa del Sol and is an upmarket resort with very smart villas, a marina and fine choice of brasseries and restaurants. It’s undoubtedly the most beautiful area on the south coast.
The golf in the area is super-strong with the likes of San Roque, La Reserva (pictured above), Finca Cortesin, Valderrama and Sotogrande all rated among the very finest in Europe. All the golf courses are within a very short drive from the hotel and the famous marina is six miles away. I’ve included a round at the hotel’s own golf course, Almenara, which is an enjoyable and pretty layout on the hotel doorstep. the spectacular La Reserva and the world-famous Valderrama, it is a splendid golf itinerary.
Playing La Reserva instead of Hacienda Links saves about £120 per person as La Reserva is owned by the hotel, the two courses are of very similar (and high-quality) standard.
The SO Sotogrande resort is a very smart rejuvenation of the hotel adjacent to the Almenara golf course and is a leisure, dining and wellness destination with up to four restaurants and superb fitness and spa facilities. The hotel has 152 bedrooms which are dotted around the grounds and it boasts all-year heated pools, pretty gardens and a brand-new golf academy. The So Comfy bedroom comes with terrace or balcony, bath and rain shower.
