I am delighted to provide my updated and recommended itinerary for your golf holiday on the Troia and Comporta coast next summer. I have tweaked the requirements bearing in mind that you are six people:
- The option of having two adjacent bungalows with a total of two doubles and two twins
- Hiring one Mercedes Vito 9-seater – this will work for six people and you can drive the vehicle on a special licence as it is for private use and fewer than 8 passengers
The drive from Lisbon Airport to Troia takes 90 minutes. My local contact has suggested taking two or three adjacent self-catering bungalows which are part of the five-star Editory-By-The-Sea hotel which is a trendy, nature-oriented hotel serving local cuisine in the restaurant and snacks in the bar. Troia is the best spot for restaurants in the region as a lot of the area is still wonderfully wild and secluded. I rate the hotel as a “funky” four-star as it lacks the service and facilities of true five-star properties. However, it’s cracking value. Each apartment/bungalow has one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and one sofa bed and measures 115m2 and comes with sea view. There’s an equipped kitchenette, daily cleaning and you have full access to the hotel’s facilities. So you have the flexibility and privacy of your own apartment/bungalow but the convenience of hotel services.
Troia Golf Club is just a two-minute drive from the hotel with a shuttle service operated by the hotel’s Concierge service. Las Dunas Golf Club (pictured above) is just over 25 minutes from the hotel and both courses make the area superb for golf. The nearby and legendary Torre Golf Course has been rebuilt by Sergio Garcia but has yet to obtain its trading licence! I very much enjoy Troia for its classic design and location and Las Dunas is already gaining great acclaim with every one of its holes set apart from the rest with only the trees and rolling ocean for company. Las Dunas is the first ever course to be rated in the European Top 10 in its first year. The area provides perfect land for soft heathland links.
