I am pleased to provide a recommendation for a winter sunshine holiday in Oman. I spent a week in Oman last December and was entranced by the scenery and welcome. The food was good to excellent and the golf courses are of a high European standard. Muscat (pictured above) is an historical port and the capital of Oman. It combines modernity with outstanding culture and the attractions of the seaside. Muscat is a small city so you’re never too far from where you want go.
The Kempinski is a spacious and contemporary five-star hotel in a great location for the golf course and sights. The hotel has 310 bedrooms and up to ten restaurants and bars and is on the beach and has two pools. The Superior bedroom is 45m2 and the Kempinski “style” is modern and detailed. I stayed one night at the hotel and enjoyed the busy “vibe” and space.
The golf in Oman is good with Muscat La View and Al Mouj now being the best two of the three good courses in Oman. Al Mouj (designed by Greg Norman) was recently voted best course in the Middle East and Muscat La Vie has been renovated and relaunched and is a striking, American-type layout. Al Mouj is on the coast (near the airport so it’s quite a sight on a few holes of the back nine to see the planes coming in to land) and Muscat is about five miles inland.

Classic Muscat City Tour
The tour includes a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, drive by the diplomatic quarter and Royal Opera House. Visit the fish market, Bait Al Baranda Museum and Muttrah Souk. Drive through Old Muscat to see Al Alam Palace with its two flanking Portuguese forts. Duration: 4 hours
Wahiba Sands
Wahiba Sands including an English speaking driver/guide. It’s a rather spectacular drive through the desert and includes a picnic lunch. Duration: All day
The weather in February ranges between 21F and 26F with 9 hours of sunshine so is ideal for winter sunshine golf.
