I am delighted to provide my recommendation for a pre-Christmas holiday in the Canary Islands this November and December.
Fuerteventura is unspoilt and quiet compared to the other Canary Islands and is very proud of its emphasis on ecology and has been recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere reserve since 2009. There are a huge number of beaches (white sand as opposed to the black/brown sands on the other islands). It’s a long, thin island with the south very arid and dramatic. Most of the hotels and two of the golf courses are on the east side where there are the best beaches and the temperature is consistent throughout the year at about 25 C.
Elba Palace Hotel is ideal if one wants to relax, enjoy the food and hospitality and play some golf. The golf is relatively straightforward with not too many bunkers and meanders past the hotel and a couple of upmarket residences. It’s enjoyable and easy walking. Golf de Salinas is next door and is more technical but is not as well maintained.
The hotel has two restaurants and two bars, tennis, outdoor and indoor pool and spa area. The prices provided are for the 34m2 Deluxe Double, Deluxe Double with Golf View and the Comfort Double which is also the same size but provides some nice added-values.
The hotel is a short walk from the beach, three miles from the marina at Puerto Castillo and 10 miles from the capital of Puerto des Rosario. The geography of the island is not as green or varied as Gran Canaria or Tenerife but there are some amazing sights in the south of the island and the hotel runs excursions. It is enjoyed for the sunshine and welcome but don’t expect a huge choice of things to see and do.
