A Leading Hotel of the World and managed by the prestigious Anantara group since 2019, the Villa Padierna Palace is the most complete and refined “large” resort on the Costa del Sol.
Owned by an aristocratic Spanish family, the resort shows off beautiful antiques and furnishings. There are plenty of marble floors and staircases and now an added contemporary touch provided by Anantara.
The 132 bedrooms overlook classic Andalusian countryside and the supplement for seaview bedrooms (the Mediterranean coast is just over one mile away) is reasonable. Most of the bedrooms have a balcony with some of them being huge. An ideal place for a “room service” dinner for two. Some of the rooms are small but provide a great-value base if you’re going to spending most of your time on the fairways and using the hotel facilities. The Suites start at 43m2 and are a great way to treat yourself and/or satisfy any non-golfers who fancy a lazy afternoon in the luxury of their own company and comfort. And their are fabulous villas too. They feature a private pool, marble statues, butler service and a wonderful location adjacent to the amphitheatre.
For dining, La Loggia provides a hearty and delicious breakfast. There’s fine-dining at Paco Romero, a Sushi Bar & Restaurant, poolside light snacks. At the beach there’s delicious cooking at Club del Mar, and Eddy’s Bar adds a very British flavour to the venue. The clubhouse serves breakfast and lunch and, for those who have forgotten that they’re on holiday, “Yumm” puts the food focus on health and calorie counting!
The resort has no fewer than three golf courses. The hills overlooking the hotel are dotted with fabulous villas, again built with great taste by the Spanish owners. The spa is sensational and focuses on Asian Wellness and Medical treatments made famous by Anantara. And the private beach and racquet club – to and from which are free shuttle transfers – offers tennis, squash, badminton as well as a prime piece of beach.
The three courses – Flamingos, Alferina and the short Tramores – provide plenty of challenge without being overly difficult. Flamingos is the best with fairly tight fairways but large greens. Alferini is longer with wider fairways and generous greens. Tramores measures just under 4000 yards and is a great way to fine-tune your short-game and/or have a knock-about before supper.
The service is discreet, attentive and friendly and the whole place is slick. Villa Padierna is an excellent venue for a high-quality holiday on the Costa del Sol.
