Wimereux is one of those courses golfers speak about with affection rather than reverence — and that is exactly the point. Laid out by the sea by Willie Park Jr., it has a proper old-fashioned feel, with tilted fairways and greens that demand imagination.

The outward nine runs high above the Channel, often exposed to wind and weather, while the inward holes drop closer to town and generally a little kinder. It is never predictable and rarely forgiving, but always engaging. What makes Wimereux special is that it feels unchanged by time: you play it knowing golfers have been enjoying — and suffering — on the same holes for generations. Great links fun.
