Host to the European tour, The Wales National course is big but fair with welcoming fairways lined by woodland and framed by beautiful views. At over 7400 yards off the back, I would recommend playing off the Yellows to avoid the round becoming a slog! Cut through mature woodland, it’s a very pretty course with some USA-type hazards such as the huge waste bunkers and water hazards. However, it’s a fair challenge providing a good all-round test.
The second course – and the very first part of what is now a thoroughly complete and very impressive resort – is called The Lake course. Opened in 1995 and a nice yardage of 6436 yards with par of 72, the design features, surprise, surprise, water from the word go! Open to members and hotel residents only, the Lake course is arguably the more enjoyable of the two but a round at each makes for a fine combo.
