Sometimes referred to as the “Wentworth of Lisbon”, Aroeira Golf Resort is a prestigious golf and lifestyle community nestled in a serene pine forest, just 25 minutes from Lisbon and 10 minutes from Caparica’s beaches.
Under new ownership for a couple of years, both golf courses have been remodelled and the standards of green-keeping is excellent. I love the small and unpretentious clubhouse where the food and wine is really good and fantastic value.
Both courses are 30 minutes south of Lisbon and there’s a fun and bright modern hotel nearby as well as the beaches and a few restaurants. The courses are also en-route to several hotels in the regions to the south of Lisbon.

The Aroeira I course is a classic parkland course, featuring tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering and fast, undulating greens. The mature pine forest creates a tranquil layout, rewarding accuracy over power. Aroeira I has hosted the Portuguese Open twice (1996 & 1997).

Aroeira II is a longer, more modern layout, designed with tournament play in mind. It features large lakes, wider fairways, and elevated greens, creating a risk-and-reward challenge. I prefer the No.1 golf course but No.2 is a great complement.
With five lakes and many strategically placed bunkers, Aroeira II requires smart course management. The par-5 10th hole is one of its highlights, offering a long, dogleg fairway around a lake.
Of the two, I prefer No.1 but I know the owners have big plans for No.2 including a major hotel.
