The on-site golf course at Aphrodite Hills Resort, PGA National Cyprus, is a hugely enjoyable parkland course laid out over three plateaux. The course is flat but buggies are compulsory due to three or four long gaps between green and next tee. PGA National Cyprus has deservedly hosted the European Tour on a few occasions and is the best course on the island. The resort is rated 40th best in Europe and I think that it should be higher in the rankings.
Wide fairways and large greens keep the game relaxed but the bunkers should keep you on your toes and there are several stunning shots to play including a jaw-dropping par three over a ravine and the par five 18th with an island green in front of the clubhouse terrace. It’s not a long course but you still need to think and a couple of the par fours do require two good hits. Without the sometimes over-the-top design of more recent years, PGA National Cyprus, provides classic and rewarding sunshine golf with an excellent clubhouse and decent practice range to add to the day’s fun.
