Golf holidays in the Costa Brava remind me a lot of what the Costa del Sol was like many years ago – there’s a little bit of driving to do between the best courses but the unspoilt coastline and historic towns as well as the excellent value to be had make for a memorable and truly authentic experience.
Fly into Girona or the incredible city of Barcelona and you can take your pick of all sizes and styles of resort: from small, family-run paradores in an ancient town, to lively resort-centre hotels on the coast, from self-catering villas to state-of-the-art golf hotels. I can arrange private transfers but would recommend a hire car as the roads are good.
For golf, there are a dozen established courses of which eight are very much worth playing including both courses at the top-of-the-class PGA Catalunya resort. Weather-wise, travel from early March to late November and you’ll enjoy short-sleeve golf or better, and even the winter months are a joy compared to the bleak weather back home.
A little bit off the beaten track as far as most Spanish golf holidays are concerned, I recommend the Costa Brava if you want all the flavour of Spain but without the crowds.
