I am delighted to provide a recommendation for a USA East Coast tour next spring. Staying four nights at Ponte Vedra Inn, then three nights at the Andaz in Savannah then the Westin at Jekyll Island incorporating a lovely mix of a smart resort, a stay in the historic and small city of Savannah before finishing up at the beach in Georgia.
Looking at my rates at the better hotels on the coast, the Ponte Vedra Inn is best value and in a great location. The hotel is officially a five-star and regularly wins five AAA diamonds which is very hard to achieve. There’s golf on site as well as terrific leisure facilities and the bedrooms are just under 50m2 with a kitchen area. The prices now include the Resort Fees.
For golf, TPC Sawgrass (pictured above) is available to play, it is four miles from the hotel. I’ve played the two courses at TPC Sawgrass and both are very good and exceptionally presented. The Stadium is a beast but very memorable and the green-fee includes a buggy. Playing the Ocean course at Ponte Vedra would cost £260 per person including buggy and taxes.
Savannah boasts a great reputation for food, music and industry The four-star Hotel Andaz is in the perfect location (Riverwalk District) for the city centre and river. The hotel has a private car park, restaurant, bar and gym and has contemporary interior design which is fresh and fun. The price is based on a the top-floor “Loft” bedroom which is bigger and quieter than the standard bedrooms. Local taxes of $112 will be payable direct.
The Westin is a renowned and “safe” brand. Their Jekyll Island hotel is literally on the beach and has a pool, three eateries and bar. This price is based on an Ocean View bedroom which is 37m2. Local taxes of $105 will be payable direct.
