I am delighted to provide my recommendation for a golf holiday in South Glamorgan.
The golf in the area is superb with Royal Porthcawl (pictured above) No. 1 in Wales and regularly mentioned as a potential Open Championship venue. Pyle & Kenfig (No.10 in Wales) meanders through huge dunes and is a firm favourite and I’ve also included a round at the wild and rather remote Pennard, rated No.3. Southerndown (No.6 in Wales) is slightly inland and plays like a heathland. Monmouth and Cradoc are parkland, both quite hilly and rated No.39 and 40 in Wales.
For accommodation, the Bear Hotel is the focal point of the village of Cowbridge which has been voted as the “best place to live in Wales” on several occasions. It’s an historic pub/restaurant/hotel (superior three-star standard) and the village has other pubs, brasseries and delicatessen. Cowbridge is 15 miles west of Cardiff. The hotel offers a three-course half-board menu for £35 per person per night.
