I am suggesting two nights on the Costa Comporta (90 minutes south of Troia) with two rounds of golf followed by three nights in Estoril with a further two rounds of golf. Comporta is a charming and trendy beach spot in the Alentejo province; it’s well known as a weekend retreat for the well-heeled residents of Lisbon and is a hot-spot for artists. The four-star AlmaLusa Comporta is a 53-bedroom hotel close to the heart of the small town with farming fields between it and the nearby coast. The hotel has a rooftop bar serving tapas, outdoor pool and buffet style cafe.
Troia Golf Club and Las Dunas Golf Club (pictured above) are both just 15 minutes from the hotel and both courses make the area superb for golf. The nearby and legendary Torre Golf Course is set to reopen next September after a rebuild by Sergio Garcia. I very much enjoy Troia for its classic design and location and Las Dunas is already gaining great acclaim with every one of its holes set apart from the rest with only the trees and rolling ocean for company.
After Comporta, it’s a 1 3/4 hour private transfer to Estoril where I am suggesting you stay at Hotel Inglaterra and play the beautiful Oitavos and the charming Estoril. Hotel Inglaterra is a boutique four-star with just 70 bedrooms and located close to Estoril casino. Built in the Belle Epoque era and supplemented by a contemporary modern wing, the hotel is elegant and has a bar, restaurant, outdoor heated pool and some lovely public rooms in the original building. A lot of the bedrooms are all different in design and size and some of the single bedrooms are small.
I would describe Oitavos Golf Club as a soft links with plenty of risk and reward holes and generous fairways but plenty of challenging approach shots and short greens. Estoril Golf Club would be the least challenging on your tour but is fun and easy-on-the-eye.
The resort of Estoril, and its adjacent sister resort of Cascais, are picturesque and lively but quite upmarket so you’ve got the charm of the seaside without mass tourism.
