I’m delighted to provide my recommendation for a golf holiday on the Algarve next year.
The Robinsons Club (pictured above) on the Eastern Algarve ticks a lot of boxes as it’s a friendly and good-quality four-star hotel, big enough to have good facilities but small enough to offer a relaxed atmosphere. The two on-site courses are well-maintained and fair to play, and the All Inclusive is generous for hotels on mainland Europe.
It is also very close to the beach with just a couple of fairways of Quinta da Ria golf course in between. The hotel is sporty with activity and exercise classes take place throughout the day of which most are free and the leisure facilities are excellent and the holiday price also includes tennis, bikes, access to the wellness area, gym and relaxation programs.
There are 265 bedrooms spread over the large grounds and there are two restaurants and four bars to choose from, the All-Inclusive option features breakfast, lunch, afternoon buffet, dinner and all-day drinks. The drinks package includes all day house wine, soft drinks and beer and excludes sparkling wine, some premium-brand wines and spirits. The local wines are surprisingly good these days. The supplement to eat in the A La Carte restaurant was €15 per person per meal in 2024. There’s a weekly gala and entertainment dinner on Friday evenings and the wellness programs are very well done.
Robinson’s is surrounded by the Quinta da Cima and Quinta da Ria courses, they are fairly wide layouts featuring big bunkers, water hazards and some terrific inland and coastal views, Quinta de Cima being particularly good. Both courses are easy-walking, very well maintained and require a variety of shots to score well. I was most impressed when I last played them and I know clients also rate them highly. The golf clubhouse is a two minute walk from the hotel and offers a good wine list and menu but is not included in the All Inclusive package. Practice facilities are decent and inexpensive and the two courses are easy-walking but buggies can be pre-booked (payable direct) if required. I have also listed the option to play the rather special Monte Rei which is nearby and often rated No.1 golf course in Portugal. The hotel is undergoing a partial refit this spring (40 bedrooms and the public bedrooms) so there may well be the opportunity to upgrade to these “new” bedrooms next year.
The closest large town to the resort is Tavira (5 miles) which I found to be charming. I also like the beach town of Cabanas which is just down the road (three miles) from the hotel. The hotel is about 45 minutes east of Faro Airport and you’ll be Meeted and Greeted by my partners in Portugal and taken by private transfer to the resort.
For 16 people, transfers would be in a 28-seater coach.
