One of the most impressive privately-owned resorts I’ve visited in recent years, Archerfield provides fabulous accommodation and pretty much fabulous everything else.
Just 40 minutes from Edinburgh Airport and with its own two golf courses, Archerfield is spread out over 550 acres and six styles of bedroom – The House with its All Inclusive concept and suitable for small upmarket groups, the adjacent Pavilion Suites ideal for couples, the huge Lodges which are perfect for small parties who want the comfort of a hotel but the privacy of your own home and three wonderful houses overlooking the Firth of Forth – all of which are used by the most famous players in the world when there’s a tournament in the region or over the other side of the Forth.
The spa has a wonderfully contrasting ethos by offering healthy treatments and the most generous of drinks and nibbles while you relax. It’s great!
Food can be anything from a snack in the clubhouse or fine-dining by a private Chef in your Lodge.
The two golf courses are a fine mix of links-like fairways lined by pine trees. Fidra is a great course to warm your links game up and Dirleton Links is more challenging with real classic feel to it despite it being only 15 years old. Good enough to play often during your stay, Archerfield is nevertheless close to Gullane, North Berwick, Muirfield, Luffness and a host of wonderful layouts that golfing dreams are made out of.
