Royal Zoute LINKS
Course overview
Royal Zoute Golf is undoubtedly one of the most reputed links courses on mainland Europe, and was designed by the great Harry Colt. Laid out over a hundred years ago, the course has recently had a serious redesign and installed irrigation and looks like it will climb up the European rankings again to somewhere near its high spot of No.4 in Europe.
At first glance, the layout does not look too tough but the subtleties come to the fore as soon as the wind picks up. You can be relatively relaxed off the tee but the greens are often raised and small so your approaches or short-game has to be spot on. Regular host to the Belgian Open, the likes of Palmer and Faldo have won here. 13 miles north of Bruges and near the upmarket seaside resort of Knokke-Heist. Ask me about the Clubhouse Bedrooms at Royal Zoute as these make for a real “golfer’s weekend” and also mean vastly-reduced green fees at both the Championship and the Par 64 Executive courses.
