Now with two courses of good quality, Omaha Beach is no longer “stuck out like a sore thumb” but a golf destination in its own right.
La Mer is the original 18 with a mix of parkland, woodland and even a touch of links with several holes looking out to the Channel and Landing Beaches. Le Manoir is the new course on the block: with a Slope Index of 146 off the back tees, the course has some very tough holes and some beautiful ones too and it features almost every hazard you can think of. However, the fairways are large and you just need to look at the yardage chart or GPS gadget and plot your way around. If not, and you just try and blast your way through the challenge, you’ll come acropper.
With a relaxed clubhouse, a four-star hotel on site and a good practice ground, Omaha Beach Golf Club possibly offers the most comprehensive facilities for serious golfers in Normandy.
