Lahinch WORLD-CLASS LINKS

Course overview

Rated as the best course on the west coast by many of my clients and rated No. 2 in Ireland, Lahinch was officially laid out in 1894 by Old Tom Morris with a hotel built soon after.  It’s been a golfing Mecca ever since with Dr Alister MazKenzie and Martin Hawtree adding their finesse in subsequent years.

Overlooking Liscannor Bay, the views are terrific.   Taking a caddie is advisable as there are quite a few blind shots amid the huge sand dunes and the greens are “subtle”.   Host to the Irish Open in 2019, the pro’s benefitted from fine weather and I would love to see them play it “proper golfing weather” as the Slope of 133 becomes irrelevant and the course bares its sharp teeth.  Brilliant.

Lahinch has a second course – The Castle – just inland with fewer of the challenges but a perfect warm-up for its big brother.
