France’s second oldest golf club, Dinard was laid out by returning British Army officers attracted by Saint Malo’s reputation of being a major hub for marine trade. They also encouraged the construction of the a railway, then a tennis club and then in 1887…the Willie Dunn-designed links over 50 hectares of stunning coast.
We’ve played Dinard in benign conditions when you can post a good score and in conditions where you’re happy to post a hard-earned bogey. Such is the whimsy of proper links golf and the course is made all the trickier because no two consecutive holes face the same direction. A little under 6000 yards and with a par of 68, it takes a very good golfer to play to their Handicap twice in a row. Dinard provides an excellent game of golf with 18 good holes but our favourites are the five par threes, four of which are pretty much on the beach. There’s fine food and a classy atmosphere in the Art Deco clubhouse.
