One of the oldest courses in France, Dieppe Pourville is enjoying a new renown thanks to heavy investment and a “retro” redesign. The near clifftop location overlooking the Channel has always been impressive and the clubhouse welcome and food excellent and the course always enjoyable but now Dieppe has become a golfing destination in its own right and is deservedly rated among the best in Normandy.
Laid out in 1897 by the great Wilie Park Junior, the course was a true links before WWII when damage and cliff subsidence put paid to some of the holes. Now, six holes are links and the rest is parkland often with a sea breeze to contend with. The fairways are well shaped and the greens well protected so you need a good all-round game to score well.
Dieppe is a great example of it being wiser to improve something you already rather than spending time and money on something you hope will be good. The local seaside town is very French, easy-going and great value – just look the golf course.
