The home of gastronomy, the Chef is often more important than the Club Pro at many golf courses in France. And, let’s face it, there’s nothing better than having a memorable lunch after an enjoyable round of golf. I know many golf courses in France where you can eat really, really well: Chateau de Chailly is one of them and they host the Chef-Am on September 22-23, 2019.
Chateau de Chailly is at the north of Burgundy so about five hours from Calais and minutes away from great wines. The hotel is a superior four-star with good bedrooms in the annexe and some fantastic bedrooms in the chateau itself. I include Chailly in two- or three-centre holidays taking in Around Paris and/or Champagne – these destinations avoid the crowds and you get to see three very different regions without having to drive too far.
The Chef-Am puts together 18 Chefs and 54 amateurs for two days golf and fine-dining. Starting with a gourmet dinner at the hotel, you have a night with breakfast and then an 18-hole competition with tastings and nibbles all along the golf course. I can add extra nights and rounds and the best travel arrangements to make the Chef-Am part of a memorable golf holiday, only possible in France!
