Sable Solesmes Golf Club is a big golf club with 27 holes, impressive clubhouse and a highlevel of maintenance. Despite its seclusion, it has hosted the Challenge Tour on several occasions. It’s sometimes rated as Michel Gayon’s best work and he’s designed many courses around the world.
With huge fairways, you might be tempted to blast away but the course is very subtle with plenty of traps, and experienced players will soon realise they need to plot their way around. There’s water, too, to lure the over-ambitious player. The back nine has some spectacular holes and views. Sable Solesmes is a course where you could easily spend several days taking in the challenge and the setting and want to come back for more next year. A top-class act.
