Recently upgraded, the four-star Hotel Encinar is arguably the best-placed hotel in the Sotogrande area for golfers. Within a two- to 15-minute drive you have top golf course after top golf course and the port of Sotogrande is only a short taxi ride away.
There are 120 bedrooms although the Standard bedrooms don’t have a shower and the bath is a bit awkward to get in to. So go for the Superior or Junior Suite – both at very reasonable cost – to ensure space and practicality. The Junior Suites come with large balconies too.
The whole ambience is authentically Spanish with the staff and decor offering warmth. Parking is free and the hotel garden’s are small but pretty and the outdoor pool is great for a pre-dinner dip.
Dining at the hotel is pretty good with the freshest of breakfasts and traditional dishes for lunch and dinner. There’s a great restaurant just a two-minute walk away and the eateries and attractions of Sotogrande are a €15 taxi ride/five minute drive.
Recently bought by a hotel company which has purchase four other hotels in the region, Hotel Encinar is now up to date in presentation and provides an ideal base to experience what is one of most prestigious golfing areas in the world.
