Designed by Peter Allis and Dave Thomas, Old Thorns opened in the early 1980’s to great acclaim. A little past its heyday, the course has some great holes and is in decent condition for much of the year. The greens can be small so some technical ability is required but the fairways are relatively generous. Cut through a Hampshire pine forest and part of a comprehensive four-star resort, I would recommend Old Thorns as a good loosener on your first and last day with golf at the local and very good courses of Liphook and Blackmoor on your middle days.
