On the Atlantic coast south-west of Bordeaux and heading down towards Biarritz is Biscarrosse – a nice holiday course threaded through a predominantly pine forest. The course measures about 6300 yards off the back and is a par 72 so, at first glance, it looks pretty tame. However. the first four holes are tight and it’s best to take an iron off the tee unless you’re fully warmed-up and ready. After that, the fairways become more generous and there’s a clever use of doglegs. There aren’t too many bunkers but the greens are fairly small. The design is pleasant and the course condition is better these days, but Biscarrosse would be considered even higher if there was a little more TLC
