We like Bauge Pontigne a great deal and, along with Sable Solesmes, it forms an oasis of high-quality where you’re going to eat and drink well and see gorgeous countryside. Measuring nearly 6500 yards off the Whites with a surprisingly low Slope Rating of 130. Laid out in a sort of snail shell arrangement (as with the Arrondissements of Paris), the course meanders through woodland, It’s a mostly American-type layout with a touch of classic parkland. With four holes featuring a heavy dose of water and plenty of bunkers, you might be apprehensive at first but the hazards are mostly visual and you’ll soon realise that Bauge is a very pretty and fair challenge. The clubhouse serves hearty food.
