Just two hours’ drive south of Calais, Chantilly is most famous for its chateaux, horse-racing and polo. But did you know the area boasts two World Top 100 golf courses and 198 holes besides? It’s a beautiful region with lots of space, historic towns and a genteel but lively atmosphere.
The hotels are looking great too with two five-star hotels – the Relais et Chateaux Auberge du Jeu de Paume and the Hyatt Regency in Chantilly, the four-star Mercure Chantilly, the three-star Hotel de Chantilly and the charming Hostellerie de la Porte Bellon. I’ve also got a couple of upmarket B&B’s if you’re looking for a more intimate atmosphere. In short, there’s a style and budget for everyone. And everyone is bound to love the golf and attractions. Non-golfers can explore the historic buildings (including the stunning Chateau de Conde and astonishing Chateau Pierrefonds) and museums and the countless chocolate shops in both Senlis and Chantilly. The young ones in the family can run wild in the forests as well as scare themselves silly at Parc Asterix and La Mer de Sable. It’s pretty much paradise in France…Just 260 miles from the centre of London.
For golf, Chantilly Vineuil accepts visitors to play its famous fairways, Morfontaine and Paris International are very exclusive but I have great contacts there. And the other beautiful courses in the area, such as Chateau de Raray, Club du Lys, Apremont and Isle Adam practically offer “millionaires golf” midweek and a warm welcome even at weekends.
