With the opening of the links-parkland course of Koksidje (pictured above) near the coast, West Flanders has become a legitimate golfing destination. With four courses now within easy reach, there’s plenty of choice and variety in design with century-old links mixing with modern parkland and forest.
Ypres is a fascinating and enjoyable choice for your base with it’s small but decent selection of hotels and a lively apres-golf scene. The municipality is ancient and there are many astonishing buildings and landmarks to admire as well as the poignant tributes to the soldiers and battles of WWI.
Just 75 minutes from Calais and just over the French border, my holidays in Ypres are excellent value, and eating and drinking is inexpensive too. You won’t see too many golfers on the fairways – especially midweek – so there’s everything you need to have an extra golf break in your holiday plans.
