A three-round tour of Medoc Les Chateaux, Gujan Mestras and Arcachon ensures you get a top-quality mix of golf. Arcachon is the simplest of the three but we all need a break from time to time and it’s a classic forest layout with a straightforward start for the first 90 minutes and then you’re in party town with a run of eight quite tight holes – particularly if you let the water hazards affect your field of vision. Dating from the late 19th-century, the club actually became an 18 hole course some 80 years later. It’s a friendly club and a nice course. Lunch at the panoramic restaurant, with its views over the famous bay must be on your itinerary for the day
