The newest addition to Gran Canaria is an intelligent design bordering the ocean. With several holes boasting an Arizona look (manicured fairways bordered by desert scrub), it’s no surprise to learn that the designers were the US firm of Von Hagge, Smelek and Baril who were responsible for several fabulous and outlandish courses around the world including Les Bordes in France which was often voted as the best in Europe. Located 15 minutes north of Maspalomas and just 10 from the Salobre resort, Anfi Tauro course is quite generous off the tee but also tricky with canyons, lakes and the prevailing wind to contend with. Lower handicappers will relish the chance of birdie opportunities but may be in for a shock as it’s often “birdie or bust” if you take a risk. Anfi Tauro is part of a standalone resort with hotel, self-catering apartments and an increasing number of restaurants. The clubhouse and academy facilities are also good. I rate Anti Tauro as the best course in Gran Canaria. Buggies are obligatory
