If you are looking for a resort with everything then The Ritz-Carlton Abama Golf Resort is the place to be: a five-star resort on the southwest coast of Tenerife with Moorish-inspired architecture, tropical gardens and a private beach, it’s been an annual holiday destination for many of our clients for many years. In other words, it’s a winner!
The Ritz Carlton Abama has 459 rooms and suites, 8 restaurants, 7 pools, a spa, arguably the best golf course on the island, a tennis academy, a cycling centre, a kids’ club and a beach club. Despite its size and the variety of facilities, the resort has generous gardens leading down to the beach.
Accommodation
There are 23 bedroom categories and locations so there’ll be something to suit everyone’s needs. For example, the spacious (50m2) Deluxe Citadel bedrooms in the main building and the exclusive Retreat bedrooms on the top-floor alongside the Retreat Lounge where free all-day drinks and snacks are available. The Adults Only Retreat Villas set halfway between the main Citadel building and beach and, likewise, the Retreat residents have all-day nibbles and drinks around the pools as well as an exclusive breakfast venue and other advantages. And there are One Bedroom and Two Bedroom Suites if you’re travelling as a family.
Golf
Abama is the No. 1 18-hole golf course in Tenerife. Designed by Dave Thomas with lakes, waterfalls, bunkers and palm trees, it’s an excellent resort course with generous fairways but plenty of hazards. The Atlantic views add to the pleasure. The greens and fairways underwent a top-quality new grass project in 2024 to ensure all-year playability and less water consumption. The clubhouse was renovated too. There’s a golf academy and putting green. GPS buggies are included in the green fee. There are four other golf courses of note nearby if you want to add variety to your golf itinerary.
Dining and Bars
The resort has 10 restaurants and bars, from light to gourmet cuisine. They include M.B (Martin Berasetegui), Txoko (Basque) and Akira Back (Japanese) – all with at least one Michelin star each, Verde Mar, El Mirador, La Veranda, The Beach Club and Deli Cafe…It’s a hotel that your tummy won’t want to leave. The resort also offers in-room dining, picnic baskets, cooking classes and wine tastings. There is a Dine Around half- and full-board option which you can use at nearly all of the resorts (dining credit is offered at two of the Michelin-starred restaurants). The Ritz Carlton brand is known for its dedication to dining and Abama (alongside Penha Longa in Portugal) leads the way in Europe
