Course overview

Under instructions from President Charles de Gaulle, architect Jean Balladur laid out the resort of La Grande Motte in the 1960’s and 70’s. He must have been a golfer because he allowed plenty of space for a golf course as there’s no fewer than 42 holes and comprehensive practice facilities – all designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior.

The big course at La Grande Motte is called Les Flamants Rose and it’s hosted the European Tour Qualifying School more often than any other course. 6800 yards, par 72 and with five tough water holes, La Grande Motte has been the scene for heroics and catastrophes. Flat and with big bunkers, the course has a Florida feel about it.

The 4500 yards, par 58 Les Goelands is brilliant fun and features a nine-hole stretch with so much water you might as well bring a fishing net.

With a hotel on-site and several other golf courses nearby and the lively city of Montpellier under 30 minutes’ drive, La Grande Motte is a golf destination in its own right with plenty of extra benefits.
