Course overview

A hugely ambitious golf course, Barbaroux was designed by Pete Dye Snr and Jnr amid the craze for golf in France in the 1980’s and, to this day, remains one of the most creative and demanding courses in Europe. It’s rated No.42 in Europe by Golf World but we think Barbaroux is better than that with superb strategic and visual delights on every hole. And what makes Barbaroux extra special is its isolated location.

Off the tee, the course is tempting but it’s the approaches that make you a little apprehensive. And the test doesn’t stop there as the greens are massively long and you can easily underclub by a couple of clubs and leave yourself with a tough three putt.  With railway sleepers, grass bunkers and a fair amount of water, Barbaroux throws it all at you but you can’t help but smile and come back for more. It’s hilly in parts but we’d recommend you walk to really appreciate the aesthetics.

With a contemporary hotel on-site and plenty of our hotels within an hour’s drive, you have to make the effort to play Barbaroux at least once. The nearby town of Brignoles offers a few restaurants and there are vineyards to visit all around the golf course.
