Par / White tees: Par 71, 6,965 yds
La Mer is the course that makes people fall slightly quiet on the first tee — because it feels like “real golf,” not resort golf. Colt laid it through the dunes with that understated genius he’s famous for: you can see the line, you can see the temptation, and you can also see where you’ll be punished if you get greedy.
It has also had the rare honour (and misfortune) of history: wartime damage meant holes were lost, and more recently the restoration work has been about bringing back the Colt character rather than modernising it. That’s why it feels so authentic — the bunkering, the scale, the way the landscape is never “decorated,” just used. You can still see the railway tracks that the Germans used to carry armaments to the concrete bunkers, but the course dwarfs the tracks and provides a magnificent test of golf in stunning, natural surroundings. To play close to your handicap here is a worthy feat.
