The golf features three famous golf courses designed by the likes of James Braid and Jack Nicklaus and a fantastic PGA National Golf Academy complete with nine training holes. Some of the holes are outlandish in challenge, some are fairer. All around you is the sensational countryside and hills that help make Gleneagles even more special.

For outdoor pursuits, there’s shooting, riding, falconry, 4*4, fishing – you name it, Gleneagles has it in abundance and in perfect style.

For non-golfers or for afternoon relaxation, the Spa is the only Leading Spa Resort in Scotland and the “zen” both inside and outside can only help wipe out all your cares and worries.

For dining and wine, The Strathearn offers classic dining in a beautiful room and service to match. The two Michelin star Andrew Fairlie restaurant pays homage to the great man who brought Scottish cooking to new levels, showing off superb French and Scottish dining. For lighter fare, the Dormy and Birnam Brasserie provide tasty food in relaxed surroundings. And to slake your thirst, there are four bars with my favourite being The American.

A destination that is admired throughout the world, Gleneagles is a treat to enjoy for three nights or more. Stay for longer and you can explore the fabulous countryside and head off to the great links courses of St Andrews – just an hour away. If you’re flying, Edinburgh is your best bet and I can arrange a private transfer for the 60-minute journey or a hire car.
